No you do not need to lower Engine Compression before Turbocharging. Lowering the Compression of an Engine is only necessary if you’re planning on building the Vehicle to withstand High-Boost Levels and increase Realibility. On the other-hand, it is a not a must. It is however a common misconception. You can Turbocharge an OEM F22C1, what will determine how successful and efficient the engine will be, is the Tune and Engine Management System you will be using. It is Highly recommended that if you plan on Turbocharging a Stock AP2 S2000, You plan on upgrading your Fuel Pump, Fuel Injectors, and Fuel Rail. Turbocharging the vehicle will significantly increase Oxygen Volume in the Combustion chamber; The Air-Fuel Mixture will then be Lean. (Too much Oxygen to Fuel Ratio.) The larger fuel injectors, higher volume Fuel-Pump, and High-Pressure Fuel-Rail will ensure that the Air-Fuel Mixture is well balanced, thus reducing temperature inside the combustion chamber preventing Engine Detonation.
Now, Back to the Tune and Engine Management System.
Going Boost means you need to “Richen” the Vehicle’s Fuel Table. Meaning, for every PSi of Boost, Fuel volume must match Oxygen Volume. Hence, Larger Fuel Injectors! You need a reliable, tuner friendly system like the AEM EMS V2 1052 Stand-Alone to properly maintain a Stock Turbocharged F22C1 While maintaining absolutely control over all aspects of the Engine, including early warning systems, and fail-safe mechanism that can protect your Engine.
That being said,
You can Turbocharged a stock AP2 S2000 and see well above 400WHP with a decent Turbo Setup, Full Race Manifold, 3 inch Exhaust, and Turbo-Smart BOV. However, Reliability and Performance depends on the Tune the S2000 is given, and on which system it is tuned with.
